    Fuerteventura weather May

What's the weather like in Fuerteventura in  May?

Fuerteventura’s the closest of the Canary Islands to the west coast of Africa, which means it gets warm weather all year round and it’s nearly the peak of summer in May so things are hotting up. You'll get lots of sun and hardly any rain at this time, which is great if you prefer slightly cooler temperatures and less crowds than summer.

    Climatic influences

Fuerteventura’s just over 100km off the coast of Morocco, which is dominated by the Sahara Desert. This gives Fuerteventura its hot weather than can make you feel like you’re in the desert sometimes, particularly when there’s hot winds that can bring the occasional dust storm. The cool Canary Current and north easterly winds stop things getting too extreme, although some winds are blocked by Lanzarote, which lies just north of Fuerteventura. This protects Fuerteventura’s north and gives the island slightly warmer, drier and more consistent weather than the other Canary islands.

    Averages

The typical high temperature in Fuerteventura during May is 24ºC, which is perfectly warm enough for long days at the beach. You should pack some warmer clothes for the evenings though as it can get quite cool at night. The average sea temperature’s 19ºC, while humidity’s low and rainfall’s usually just 5mm over two rainy days. You can expect 13 hours of daylight with eight hours of sunshine each day and very high UV levels so don’t forget to take sun cream. Sunset is normally at 8.30pm by the end of the month.
